A very pleasant surprise, think of this film as a hybrid of the Michael Douglas’ film Falling Down and the Jake Gyllenhaal’ film Donnie Darko. Christian Slater most likely cemented his casting in the failed TV series My Own Worst Enemy with this role. Here though, Slater doesn’t have a secret spy alter ego. Slater perfectly captures the desperation of being adrift among the cubicles. Combining equal amounts of the real and the surreal, Frank A. Cappello crafts a true masterpiece. Elisha Cuthbert, William H. Macy and Sascha Knopf round out the cast in this offbeat and well-executed tale. Be sure to check out the extras on the disc and the alternate endings.
I’m repurposing content by taking my NetFlix reviews and posting them here on the blog. If I could figure out a way to do it, I’d post some kind of link for people to connect and make me their friend on the service. Unfortunately, it isn’t altogether clear how one would do that - so if you know a way, pass it along. In the meantime, I’ve got steady content for at least a year.
